The purpose of Gunnison County’s Senior Resources Office is to provide community outreach and education, preventative health, adult protection and advocacy services to seniors, at risk adults and their families so they can be more independent, healthy and connected to their community.
Later adulthood can be filled with many tasks, such as retirement, social and civic responsibilities, along with biological, psychological and social changes. Growing older can also come with hardships such as illness, caring for love ones and loss. Fortunately in our community such challenges do not have to be faced alone. Gunnison County Senior Resource Office offers numerous resources and services for a variety of situations including: caregiver support, Part D Medicare Counseling, assistance with Medicaid eligibility, safety tips, dental cleanings, and fall prevention. Our office has a staff of fully trained options counselors who, in partnership with Region 10 and the Area Agency on Aging, are able to meet with you to determine what resources are available to you or your loved ones. The Senior Resource Office can assist with referrals for senior citizen housing, low income housing, food assistance, and energy assistance. For more information, call us at 970-642-7300.
Every year, thousands of older adults are victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, while others struggle to adequately care for themselves. Perpetrators of abuse and neglect can be loved ones, individuals in a position of trust as well as strangers. To make a referral regarding suspected abuse, caretaker neglect, self-neglect, or exploitation call 970-641-3244 and ask to make an Adult Protective Services referral.
